5 Tips for Creating Consistent Content

5 Tips for Creating Consistent Content

There are some things in life you can always rely on. Like, the sun rising in the morning, or somehow never having enough time for breakfast. Consistency is key and your marketing plan should be, too. We’ll try to conquer the breakfast issue in another post.

Your branding and marketing efforts should deliver a clear message that resonates with your audience, every time, across all platforms. To achieve this, we’ve compiled five basic tenets for creating consistent content.

First thing’s first: have a clear goal and set a budget. According to CoSchedule’s 2018 marketing statistics, “Marketers that set goals for their campaigns are 429% more likely to report success.” The budget might even be $0.00 but set one anyway to hold yourself accountable.

Understand the problem you’re solving for. What are you selling? Why do clients need your service? What makes it so valuable? This includes free content you’re providing. Are your blog posts evergreen? Are the topics relatable? Authenticity is key, so don’t try to correlate your content with the status quo, make sure you’re offering something unique to the marketplace. Be crystal clear on what your priorities are, including who you’re trying to reach.

Wait, speaking of, who is your target audience? If you’re not sure, you can start by creating a persona or researching the clients you already have to compile common attributes. Study the demographics and determine common motivations as well. When you know who you’re trying to contact, think about how you’re reaching them, which brings us to…

Which communication platforms are you using? Social media, emails and blog posts all have the potential to drive traffic to your website and generate new leads. Keep track of which platforms are most effective, how often you post and what content gets the highest engagement. It’s important to keep this data organized and look for patterns that you can recreate and improve on. But how to keep it all organized, you ask?

By maintaining an up-to-date content calendar. Having an editorial calendar will save you so much time. It can be as fancy as a detailed Smartsheet form, or as simple and streamlined as Google sheets. Find the method that works best for you, but make sure it’s a living document –– one that can be edited and updated easily. Content calendars make it easier to assign projects, track progress and determine results.

The content you create is what keeps people interested. Make sure you’re consistent so your clients trust you as an authority and continue coming back for more.
