Social media has transformed what we see and when we see it. Different platforms are used for breaking news, social justice activism, global PR campaigns and yes, selfies. Maintaining a social media presence is not merely an option for businesses, it’s a necessity. But which accounts work best for your company? How do you improve engagement? What does it mean to have a social media presence with a conscience? We’re taking a look at what makes the most sense for small business social media marketing.
Money is something that takes up such an unparalleled amount of our brainspace. How much we have, how little we have, when and where we’re going to spend it. When hardships arise, thoughts of money ride in with it, often alongside an urge to contract or reconsider what we’re spending. I’ve lived through two economic crises so far in my lifetime. I know from both experience and data that while womxn do the majority of transacting in the western hemisphere, nothing gives us more pause than spending money on ourselves.
I spend a lot of my time thinking about stories. I have been crafting them for as long as I can remember. I only realized this recently, when my mom began purging the contents of the attic in my childhood home and uncovered my childhood treasure trove: boxes and boxes full of notebooks. Words are how I've always made sense of the world. I have always seen myself as first and foremost as a storyteller.
While surrounded by bubbles in a bathtub in Toronto, I had a real moment of clarity. This is my life. Let me back up. I had just spent a long day collaborating with clients. It was the type of day that gets me excited about the future of the technology industry. And as I was in a faraway city, for the first time in a long time, the only thing I could do at the end of the day was sit there and soak it up.
Manifestation,or womxnifestation if you will, is a valuable tool for actualizing your potential. Setting intentions is particularly powerful because it acts as a foundational support system to your actions but differs from setting goals.
One of the primary differences rests in timeframe. Goals are future-based, while intentions are rooted in the present. It’s one of the reasons why setting intentions can add such a positive and immediate impact to your daily routine. When you set an intention first thing in the morning, you can begin practicing and following through on it instantly. For example, if your intention is to pause and think before you act, you can start applying that to the first items on your to-do list, like getting dressed, before applying it to your work or finances.
There are some things in life you can always rely on. Like, the sun rising in the morning, or somehow never having enough time for breakfast. Consistency is key and your marketing plan should be, too. We’ll try to conquer the breakfast issue in another post.
Your branding and marketing efforts should deliver a clear message that resonates with your audience, every time, across all platforms. To achieve this, we’ve compiled five basic tenets for creating consistent content.
The question is not if you’ve faced an obstacle, but when. You’ve undoubtedly faced many, you may be dealing with one right now. Life is filled with them, but within that inevitability lies valuable opportunity in how you choose to react. How many inspirational quotes have you read about overcoming obstacles? Probably enough to tell you that we are constantly evaluating the best ways to confront them. Below are some exercises for resetting and overcoming.
Start with, “thank you.”
At this point in my career, I am connected to a lot of incredible, talented, collaborative, and powerful women. It's one of my greatest honors and privileges to know these women and to get to share stories and articles with them about how we've progressed in our careers and how the landscape is evolving for women in business. Lately, it seems that almost every week a woman I know is sending an article my way about funding and in particular the massive gap that we as women entrepreneurs face because of the lack of funding available to us.
But I have to be honest, this gap doesn't surprise me. I know the numbers. I know how far we have to go. What I am more curious about is why does it exist in the first place? Obviously bias and history has a lot at play here, but there's a bigger issue too and that comes down to women being ready and willing to invest in themselves.
